Poll: People believe Bush behind SBVT

According to Annenberg (I think) 46% think Bush is behind the ads and 37% think they're independent.

Which brings me to my question on a lot of these types of polls: are they just a break down along party lines with a little noise? Wouldn't it be more interesting to just know what undecided voters thought? Exclude people who are hardcore Bush (and would believe SBVT if they had Yasser Arafat as a spokesperson) or hardcore Kerry who would never believe them. These numbers are interesting, but hard to make really good sense out of.

  •  It doesn't matter (none / 0)

The polls show everything I need to see about what the public thinks of the ads.

While they may not say they support the ads and the public may not say they are having an effect with them and while the public may link them to Bush, they are having an effect and I have seen no signs it is hurting Bush.

Remember in almost all the polls the percentage of voters that view Bush as honest has gone up and those that see Kerry as honest has gone down.

    •  And you think this... (none / 1)

      ...why?

Correlation isn't causation.  I've seen no evidence that the SBVT lies have been responsible for any changes we've seen in the polls.  On the other hand, the only evidence we do have, which you dismiss seemingly without reason, points to the idea that the SBVT lies have not been the cause of the changes we've seen.

Let's be realistic, and acknowledge that the polls have closed.  But let's also be realistic and acknowledge that the evidence we have doesn't point to the SBVT'ers being the cause.

  •  Undecided voters don't think anything (none / 1)

    Isn't it obvious?
  •  Difference between thinking and caring (none / 0)

Sure, this makes sense to me. I think most people believe Bush is behind the ads.

The real question is: Do they care?

No. I don't think they care. It's seen as politics as usual.

  •  internals (none / 0)

the internals of the new (8/27/04) Annenberg pretty much shows a partisan split.  34% of Repugs, 77% of Dems and 55% of Ind believe Kerry deserved all of his medals.  23% Repugs, 67% Dems, 48% Ind believe Bush is behind the attacks.

those who don't want to nominate Hillary Clinton because they don't want to return to the nastiness of the 1990s..are deluding themselves.-Krugman
